SourceCode's Diversity Marketing Consortium Named Finalist at PR Daily’s Nonprofit Awards and Ragan Communications’ CSR & Diversity Awards

At the 2023 joint luncheon for PR Daily’s Nonprofit Awards and Ragan Communications’ CSR & Diversity Awards, SourceCode Communications, DMC was celebrated as a finalist in two categories for our work over the last year in support of diverse founders.

PR Daily’s Nonprofit Awards “celebrated the people, teams and organizations whose work built awareness and drove results for important causes” and as Ragan CEO Diane Schwartz stated, “This year’s PR Daily Nonprofit Awards finalists demonstrate how communicators can drive change by telling and amplifying the stories of real people facing real issues.” The DMC was a finalist for the Corporate/Nonprofit Partnership of the Year category in recognition of the work that our agency partners do in support of our organization. The DMC’s inclusion as a finalist in this category spotlighted our work alongside major brands and organizations such as the Wounded Warrior Project, Allbirds, and Amazon Prime.

Ragan Communications’ CSR & Diversity Awards “celebrated an impressive group of communicators and campaigns who prioritized allyship with their communities, put equity at the forefront of their hiring practices, launched unprecedented partnerships and alliances with other organizations, and much more.” For the Ragan awards, the DMC was runner-up under the DE&I-focused category of Allyship. An impressive group of brands and agencies were honored for inclusive campaigns that made an impact on underrepresented communities and as Ragan CEO Diana Schwartz noted, the awards finalists “demonstrate how communicators are not only telling stories about their DE&I progress, but setting strategy across functions that generate real change and accountability across industries.”

We are honored to have received both of these acknowledgments and congratulate all of the other brands, agencies, and organizations that are also doing such important work when it comes to driving meaningful change across a variety of worthy issues, particularly DE&I. As we reflect on all that we’ve accomplished in our 3+ years of operation, recognitions like these only underscore the importance of the impact we’ve made thus far, and validate our unwavering commitment to championing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the business world.

Thank you as always to our partners who have joined us in our mission, and to PR Daily and Ragan for continuing to shine a light on the work being done in this space. If you’re interested in getting involved with the DMC, please email dmc@sourcecodecomms.com.

Establishing Homebase as the Voice of Small Businesses

Homebase is an all-in-one SMB team management platform that serves over 100,000 small businesses and two million hourly workers to modernize scheduling, hiring, payroll and other crucial team management needs. Every month, Homebase launches their Main Street Health Report (MSHR), which looks at data from Homebase’s small business owners/customers and hourly workers to determine the ‘state of Main Street’ today. This report is a key initiative that supports Homebase’s mission of shining a light on the economic/external factors impacting small businesses today and the crucial role they play in supporting the US economy more broadly. Homebase data is also cited by a number of economists, analysts and even Federal Reserve Banks as an indicator of broader economic trends, so getting in front of these audiences is key.

WHAT WE DID

In order to maximize coverage for the report launch each month when it releases, and ensure we’d set ourselves up for success with future report launches, SourceCode took a two-pronged approach. First, we focused on building strong relationships with key economic reporters that cover topics relevant to Homebase. Knowing that the report comes out monthly, it was important for us to establish open lines of communication with these key media and have an ongoing dialogue about what might be of interest to them so that we could tailor our outreach accordingly. Second, beyond telling the larger economic story, we looked at ways to splice the data by various verticals (i.e. food, bev & restaurant, hospitality & tourism, retail) as well as regionally so that we could expand the number of outlets the report would be relevant to, such as trades and local media. We are also able to analyze the data over time, calling out interesting spikes, dips, and trends that are relevant to each reporter month over month, year over year, etc.

RESULTS

Since the beginning of our engagement with Homebase in January 2023, SourceCode has secured over 300 pieces of earned coverage tied to MSHR data, a dramatic uptick from last year (even this early on in the year). A major milestone moment included landing Homebase on the front page of the Wall Street Journal and having both the Homebase founder and their customers included in stories. We have also established relationships with key, top-tier reporters at CNBC, the Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg, who now regularly come to SourceCode in search of Homebase data to supplement their stories, in addition to asking for specific data to be pulled ahead of the report’s release. Our relationship-building approach has been so successful that many of the reporters we now work with regularly have direct access to Homebase’s AWS so they can pull data on an as-needed basis, as it relates to other timely moments such as monthly BLS jobs report. The client has been thrilled with these results, nearly doubling their quality clip score year over year, improving number of impressions via high-reaching syndications and increasing backlink inclusion from near zero to 25%.

Announcing Nile’s Series C

Nile is a network-as-a-service provider seeking to own the category. After emerging from stealth less than a year ago, Nile was interested in leveraging its funding announcement to raise awareness for its brand messaging, position in the NaaS market and uniqueness of its solution.

WHAT WE DID
SourceCode conducted embargoed outreach two weeks prior to the launch to generate the maximum amount of coverage while also working with investor PR firms and other partners on behalf of Nile. SourceCode did not offer an exclusive, so for those media outlets that requested one, our team helped to provide exclusive quotes from investors, customers and Nile executives so media opportunities weren’t lost.

RESULTS
We secured more than 57 pieces of coverage in top tier business and trade publications, including 21 features in outlets like TechCrunch, SVBJ and CRN. We also landed 5 interviews for key stakeholders including Nile executives, investors and customers with publications including Reuters and TechTarget. The buzz that the news created also generated an inbound keynote speaking opportunity with EDGE World Summit, 3,000 new LinkedIn followers for Nile’s CEO, and an increase in 10,000 page visits in August from to Nile’s website from 4,000 the month prior.

“The success of this announcement confirms viability and longevity of Nile in the market, making prospect conversations easier,” CMO, Scott Gainey.

Positioning DataBank as the Leading Voice of AI Infrastructure

In view of the spike in interest in generative AI, all eyes are on the shortage of GPU chips necessary to run generative AI models. However, there needs to be adequate data center capacity to house and power the hardware powering AI workloads. The challenge is, currently, there is limited capacity for the kind of data centers that can support high-performance computing – key to running AI models. In the AI landscape, DataBank wanted to establish the importance of colocation for AI development and become synonymous with colocation. Raising DataBank’s brand awareness was a priority from the beginning of our partnership, which is why SourceCode recommended pursuing a reactive angle to enter the generative AI conversation.

WHAT WE DID
SourceCode spoke with DataBank’s CEO, Raul Martynek, who provided deep insight into the situation, and from there, we then leveraged his insights to create pitch angles with various themes, including challenges in securing financing, rising infrastructure construction and maintenance costs, and labor shortages. We then conducted tailored and personalized outreach to business and tech reporters at top-tier national media with the pitch angle that would be most relevant and interesting to them.

RESULTS
Since we began pushing this angle, the team has secured 10 pieces of coverage on AI and data center development, including a feature in Forbes and commentary in the Wall Street Journal, as well as coverage in Network World, InfoWorld, Telecom Ramblings and Datacenter Dynamics. Our outreach has also successfully piqued the interest of reporters at top-tier national business outlets including Bloomberg and the Associated Press, allowing us to establish a working relationship with them. Such efforts have helped establish DataBank and Raul as an expert in the industry, resulting in inbound requests from outlets like TechTarget to learn more about DataBank’s data center design and technology.
