SourceCode Shines Bright as Finalist in the 2024 PRWeek Awards for Best in Data

We are delighted to announce that SourceCode has been named as a finalist in the 2024 PRWeek Awards in the Best in Data category. For this particular submission, we submitted a campaign we conducted for our client, Homebase, and are so thrilled we can share this achievement with them.

When we began working with Homebase in January 2023, we were challenged on three fronts:

    • To increase brand recognition and position Homebase as the voice for small businesses in America
    • To dramatically increase the volume of coverage from an average of seven pieces per month (Q4 2022)
    • To showcase the breadth of services and depth of small business customers supported by Homebase

The strategy, research, and execution of the Making Homebase The Single Source of Truth for Main Street, USA campaign positioned Homebase as a thought leader and empathic partner for American small businesses while spotlighting the role of small businesses in their communities. The campaign resulted in 300 pieces of dedicated coverage, over 161MM earned media impressions, and an uptick in site traffic. The data storytelling campaign moved the needle in terms of brand perception, delivering a 10% increase in customers believing Homebase is a platform that helps them stay ahead of the curve. Using the research, we built out a series of owned educational content intended to further support small business owners and workers. Learn more about the campaign here.

We are up against some top names in the industry for this award but are excited for the results in March. Stay tuned!

She’s been eager to step up and has met every challenge and opportunity that’s come to her. Her hard work and resilience has resulted in top-tier coverage for the brands she works with and excellent feedback from clients. Navigating President Biden's AI Executive Order's Impact on Communications Professionals

President Biden's recent Executive Order (EO) on Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a directive, setting a framework for the development of AI technologies. Its influence will significantly impact how we as communication professionals undertake our day-to-day tasks and articulate the vision and utilization of AI within the companies we serve. Understanding the facets of the EO, as it evolves into policies, will be crucial for internal and external communications teams to shape strategies that resonate with authenticity and transparency, thereby fostering trust among all stakeholders.

Safety Standards and Informed Communication

As government and corporate policies take shape, decision-makers will look to their communication leaders to comprehend, shape, and disseminate the implications of AI on the organization's interactions with teams and the public. Communication professionals must grasp AI and its resulting standards well enough to convey its meaning to stakeholders through informative messages. This is essential to reassure stakeholders of a commitment to safety and reliability in AI implementation. Finding the right external partner, who truly understands AI and its impact on people and business, to support the development of accurate AI narratives could be useful.

Addressing Equity

Given the order's focus on preventing AI algorithms from perpetuating bias and discrimination, communication leaders must also stress the importance of incorporating and addressing how AI activities undertaken by the organizations they represent account for bias and discrimination when guiding organizational leaders. This emphasis is crucial for both internal and external communications, particularly in addressing evolving AI policies related to hiring practices, data usage, and employee growth (up/reskilling).

Privacy and Data Protection in Communications

With companies focusing on privacy-preserving techniques and data protection aligned with the EO, communication professionals will need to revamp communication plans, especially those involving consumer and personal data usage. Organizational shifts in data collection and usage will significantly influence communication campaigns. Striking a balance between informative communication and privacy concerns will be crucial for fostering trust.

Embracing Change and Upholding Credibility

Despite concerns about potential operational constraints, historical precedents, such as GDPR, eventually led to workable solutions. For communication leaders, offering unwavering support and advocating for clear, empathetic communication supported by company actions will be fundamental.

Staying On Top of Rapid Shifts in AI Development

The AI industry is in a state of constant evolution, and we are only just beginning to comprehend its implications for individuals, businesses, and government. Amidst various concurrent initiatives, staying abreast of these changes and comprehending their profound impact can be challenging. That's why partnering with a communications expert deeply rooted in the AI landscape becomes crucial for crafting and steering an effective, AI-focused communications strategy.

The evolving AI landscape necessitates strategic and ethical communication approaches. Communication professionals play a pivotal role in shaping dialogues and guiding public understanding and acceptance of AI's role in our future. Our proactive involvement will be essential in navigating this ever-transforming terrain.

SourceCode's Diversity Marketing Consortium Named Finalist at PR Daily’s Nonprofit Awards and Ragan Communications’ CSR & Diversity Awards

At the 2023 joint luncheon for PR Daily’s Nonprofit Awards and Ragan Communications’ CSR & Diversity Awards, SourceCode Communications, DMC was celebrated as a finalist in two categories for our work over the last year in support of diverse founders.

PR Daily’s Nonprofit Awards “celebrated the people, teams and organizations whose work built awareness and drove results for important causes” and as Ragan CEO Diane Schwartz stated, “This year’s PR Daily Nonprofit Awards finalists demonstrate how communicators can drive change by telling and amplifying the stories of real people facing real issues.” The DMC was a finalist for the Corporate/Nonprofit Partnership of the Year category in recognition of the work that our agency partners do in support of our organization. The DMC’s inclusion as a finalist in this category spotlighted our work alongside major brands and organizations such as the Wounded Warrior Project, Allbirds, and Amazon Prime.

Ragan Communications’ CSR & Diversity Awards “celebrated an impressive group of communicators and campaigns who prioritized allyship with their communities, put equity at the forefront of their hiring practices, launched unprecedented partnerships and alliances with other organizations, and much more.” For the Ragan awards, the DMC was runner-up under the DE&I-focused category of Allyship. An impressive group of brands and agencies were honored for inclusive campaigns that made an impact on underrepresented communities and as Ragan CEO Diana Schwartz noted, the awards finalists “demonstrate how communicators are not only telling stories about their DE&I progress, but setting strategy across functions that generate real change and accountability across industries.”

We are honored to have received both of these acknowledgments and congratulate all of the other brands, agencies, and organizations that are also doing such important work when it comes to driving meaningful change across a variety of worthy issues, particularly DE&I. As we reflect on all that we’ve accomplished in our 3+ years of operation, recognitions like these only underscore the importance of the impact we’ve made thus far, and validate our unwavering commitment to championing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the business world.

Thank you as always to our partners who have joined us in our mission, and to PR Daily and Ragan for continuing to shine a light on the work being done in this space. If you’re interested in getting involved with the DMC, please email dmc@sourcecodecomms.com.
