Pride Month began as a way to honor the LGTBQ+ community and the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. Since 1970 when the first Pride march was held in New York City, June has been a time to remember the trailblazers and their decades-long fight for equality.

Pride Month is very important to us as at SourceCode, with one of our core values focused around the idea of Being Human. To us this means leading with empathy, being open minded, and challenging ourselves to constantly learn and adapt to the world around us. It’s why we constantly strive to support marginalized communities in various ways, educate ourselves further, and work to support those around us year-round. During Pride month, and every day, we stand proudly with our LGBTQIA+ colleagues, clients, and partners, as we continue to focus on being a more welcoming and inclusive workplace that celebrates the diversity of all.

For Pride Month this year, we wanted to highlight a robust list of resources for our team and others so we can all grow further in the areas of empathy, open-mindedness, and education.

Below is the list of resources that we hope you check out and support throughout the month and the entire year:

  • Burn the Place: A Memoir by Iliana Regan
  • The Art of Showing Up: How to Be There for Yourself and Your People by Rachel Wilkerson Miller
  • Life as a Unicorn: A Journey from Shame to Pride and Everything in Between by Amrou Al-Kadhi
