Working at SourceCode is like being in a fun time machine. Every day, it teleports me near instantaneously to the end of the day. With today’s news cycle, not a single moment is dull. I work with clients that develop the technology tools for companies operating in the cloud, networking, business management and HR fields. So, naturally, in addition to staying on top of all the new developments, there are many nuances to be learned.

My day to day revolves around crafting pitches and media lists tailored to different outreaches. Following the news is key to being able to write pitches that reporters will want to read, and it helps me identify the reporters covering the right beat. My role is to anticipate what reporters would want to write about, who best to write that story, get them their story, and have my clients featured in them. That’s why closely following the news is pivotal. The other main component of my daily task is client management. At the Account Executive level, it’s all about flagging coverage and relevant industry news to clients as well as drafting agendas and notes to keep everyone on the same page.

As I slowly settle into my fifth month at SourceCode, things have started to become more of a routine. I can now better anticipate what the clients’ needs are and I feel far more confident pitching ideas and answering questions proactively. While there is always room for improvement, meaningful progress has been made.

Just with anything in life, practice makes perfect. The good thing is, at SourceCode, there are a lot of knowledgeable and experienced people willing to help and support me along the way!
