From Slack to San Juan: SourceCode’s 3-Day Team Offsite in Puerto Rico

At SourceCode Communications, we’re not just about PR and marketing, we’re about people. From day one, we’ve built a culture rooted in human understanding, empathy, and growth. That foundation challenges us to boldly try new things, push boundaries, and step outside our comfort zones. So, when the opportunity came to bring our team together in person, Becky and Greg didn’t hesitate.

While much of our collaboration happens in the digital realm, we know the real magic happens when you sit across the table from your teammate, share a laugh over dinner, or explore a new city side by side.

That’s why we packed our bags and headed to San Juan, Puerto Rico for a three-day offsite that brought our values to life in the most vibrant way.

Day 1: Arrival, Hugs, and Trivia

As team members arrived one by one from various locations, we were able to say our hellos, settle into the hotel, explore the city, and soak up some sunshine as we waited for everyone to land.

After officially kicking things off and clinking glasses, we gathered for a spirited game of trivia, broken up into our teams for the trip. Following some healthy (and let’s be honest, slightly unhealthy) competitiveness, we walked to our first group dinner and had a blast catching up after a long day of travel.

Day 2: Ignite Presentations and Exploring

On day two, we kicked things off with breakfast and our first full day together. Several team members prepared Ignite presentations – a fast-paced format with slides that auto-advance every minute, challenging speakers to deliver their message concisely and creatively.

Becky and Greg opened with a heartfelt look at SourceCode’s evolution and vision for the future (yes, there were some happy tears). Then, the lineup took off:

  • Iyana schooled us on how Gen Z communicates and let us in on some of their best sayings.
  • Meghan shared the history of famous vampires and vampire culture.
  • Charlie discussed the death of album art.
  • Jordan offered a crash course in how to (and how not to) write a book, based on his own experience.
  • Giles unpacked introvert and extrovert theories.
  • Paolo took us through the history of Bravo housewives culture.
  • Kristen showed us how Dungeons & Dragons teaches great leadership skills.

In true Gen Z spirit, everyone SLAYED.

Bonus Presentation:

Iyana also graced us with her highly entertaining “height chart,” where she guessed everyone’s height based solely on remote interactions. It was truly amazing.

The rest of the day was ours to explore. Some hit the beach, and others wandered the city or grabbed drinks. We reunited that evening for dinner at the biggest table we’d ever seen – rotating seats throughout the night to make sure we caught up with everyone.

Day 3: Rainforest, Local Market, and the Final Hoorah

On our final day together, we ventured to the El Yunque National Forest for a short hike through stunning rainforest scenery. Our local guides filled us in on fun facts. Did you know Puerto Rico receives over 100 billion gallons of rainwater annually, with some areas getting more than 200 inches per year? Wild.

After our adventure, we stopped at a local market for lunch, with endless delicious options. Later that night, we gathered for an amazing team dinner back at the hotel – complete with the much-anticipated Sourcie Awards.

These awards celebrate our core values:

  • Being Human: Kayleigh Jones, Account Director
  • Risk Taker & Trend Setter: Jordan Sinfield, Senior Account Executive
  • Carrying Your Weight & Lending Your Hand: Sophie Lopez, Account Executive
  • Fresh Eyes & Shining Star: Erin Christopher, Senior Account Executive

Huge congratulations to all our well-deserved winners!

Why It Matters

This wasn’t a vacation, it was a chance to reconnect, recharge, and reimagine how we show up for each other and our clients. Getting to know your teammates outside of work calls changes everything. It deepens collaboration, builds empathy, and reminds us that behind every Slack message is a whole human being with their own story, energy, and creativity.

We may not get to do this all the time, but when we can, we’ll make it count. Our time in San Juan was filled with laughter, learning, exploration, and a whole lot of joy. We returned not just as coworkers but as a stronger, more connected team.

We can’t wait to do it again soon!
